“Ninetrak Valley”

The layout is 'N' scale 1:160 / 9mm gauged track and comprises 8 connecting modules. The modules are built to American 'N Trak' which govern specifications regarding actual module size and the placement of the tracks which then enables any 'N Track' designed module to connect with a similar module from any around the world.

The modules are constructed from pine and ply timbers, and the tracks and trains are all sourced commercially. The scenery, buildings and other structures are all hand built from any suitably available materials.
The layout can run three trains simultaneously around the main tracks.
One corner module has a small alpine railway set in 'snow' and can be operated by the viewer using a press button. The train will complete one circuit in the snow!

A significant amount of detail has been built into the scenery and it is up to the viewer to spot the many smaller scenes.

The layout Simon is bringing to Apex Railtown is very much a work in progress.
Its based on Ulverstone, is in 4mm or 00 scale and using all scratch built rolling stock. He is still building much of the items so he will be able to show people what he is doing, and a lot of it will be in the building stage rather than the finished stage.

Simon will have a number on display at Apex Railtown.
One of Simon’s engines.
It is a Tasmanian X class loco in early colours.

Reed Street- ‘OO’ gauge British outline

This display has been built for exhibition use and at present is far from complete. Experience gained over several years of attending shows has resulted in a layout which is easily assembled from four lightweight sections, each 900mm x 600mm which are transported inside a purpose built container. This container, which has removable wheels for ease of movement, becomes the centre support for the assembled layout. Height adjustable legs support the outer ends of the display with diagonal stays for stability.

Three of the sections are visible to the public, whilst the fourth contains sidings arranged as a sector plate. This section is used to transport complete trains to a show and a drop down lid secures and protects the rolling stock. The visible track work is Peco Code 75 and Tortoise slow motion switch machines remotely operate the points. The operating signals are controlled by small servo motors. The rolling stock is a selection of ready to run products from Bachmann, Dapol and Hornby with a number of kit built wagons. Some of the buildings are constructed from kits with the remainder being built from scratch.
Detail castings such as wagon loads etc. are from John Mayo’s ‘Hydrastone ‘ range.

Comments and questions are most welcome on the weekend.
